PnP EXTREME PROMOTIONS 2008 RULES
Spring Explosion, Metal Mayhem & Border Wars

These are not suggestions, nor is this a menu. This is what is allowed as far as preparation of the car.  Please do not try to read anything more into these rules.“THIS IS WHAT YOU ARE ALLOWED TO DO TO PREPARE YOUR CAR.”

GENERAL RULES:

  1. All vehicles must have a roof sign, Minimum 15" x 15", Maximum 24" x 24", contrasting colors. These may not be positioned in such a way as to strengthen the car. Officials decision is final.

  2. No Imperials, any year, Imperial subframes, Ambulances, Hearses or limousines allowed.

  3. No re-stubbing of frames for the Mayhem Class.

  4. All bodies must be mounted on stock OEM frames for that year make and model of car.

  5. Small Car wheelbase is 108" maximum, 6 cylinder maximum.

  6. No painting, undercoating oiling or greasing of frames. You will not be inspected, you will be loaded.

  7. Driver must wear helmet, seat belt and eye protection at all times.

  8. All vehicles must have a fire extinguisher mounted within the drivers reach, inside the car.

  9. Mayhem Class fuel limit is 7.5 gallons. Your tank cannot hold more than that amount.

  10. All Drivers and Crew members must attend the drivers meeting.

  11. All Drivers must pick up trophy’s and earnings at the completion of the event, or forfeit.  They will not be available after that date.

COMPETITION RULES:

  1. Drivers must remain in the vehicle with helmet, seatbelt and eye protection on until notified by an official that it is safe to exit the vehicle.

  2. Drivers door hits are illegal. If the hit is deemed by the official to be careless or intentional, you will be disqualified. If you use your drivers door as a defense, we will not enforce the rules. If you use the door defense repeatedly you will be disqualified.

  3. No hot rodding in the pits. Keep it at an idle.

  4. Any open door or fire in the heat will cause disqualification. If there is a consolation heat, you may return in that heat. In the feature, you will be disqualified.

  5. Sandbagging is not tolerated and will be strictly enforced. Locking up the brakes prior to a hit for anything other than a drivers door will be a cause for disqualification. The fans pay to see a show, put one on for them!

  6. You must make AGGRESSIVE contact every 60 seconds. If you fail to do this you will receive an “X” painted on your car. This is the only X that you will receive throughout the entire event. The next time you will be disqualified for the remainder of the event.

  7. You will be given ample time for restarts. We do not use the clock exclusively. We try to work with you if you are hung up. Hitters get more time than sandbaggers.

  8. THERE IS NO ALCOHOL IN THE PITS. This includes pit crews. If you or ANY of your crew is caught with alcohol, you will be disqualified.

  9. Any questions or controversies will be discussed at the drivers meeting.

  10. All cars are subject to a post race inspection before any prize money is awarded.

  11. You must be a driver to protest, the fee is $100 and you must have cash in hand. This protest must take place immediately at the conclusion of the feature event. The protesting driver must have competed in the same class as the driver he is protesting.

FULL SIZE & SMALL CAR PREPARATION RULES

GENERAL PREPARATION:

  1. All glass, plastic and pot metal must be removed.

  2. Nothing may remain in the bottoms of the trunk or doors.

  3. All outer hardware must be removed - door handles, mirrors, chrome, moldings, screws, fiberglass, etc.

  4. No added weight to any car.

  5. Rear seats in all cars and all decking in station wagons must be removed.

  6. Front seats must be securely bolted to the floor, however, these bolts may NOT go thru the frame!

  7. You must have a functioning seat belt.

  8. All flammable materials must be removed from the car other than safety padding and the drivers seat.

  9. No distributor protectors are allowed.

  10. No sedagon or wedge cars are allowed.

 

  1. CAGES & DOOR BARS:

  1. You may use channel or tubing up to 6" for the door bars. Total length not to exceed 60". This bar may not be more than 18" behind the center post on 4 door cars and 10" behind the door seam on 2 door cars - no exceptions.

  2. Dash bar and seat bars may not exceed 5". Seat bar must be no further than 6" behind the seat.

  3. There is no 3rd bar allowed in 2008.

  4. You may add a diagonal bar behind the drivers seat and directly below the seat bar running from the seat bar to the floor sheet metal.

  5. You may add 4 VERTICAL down bars, welded to your door bar and to the floor sheet metal. These bars may not attach to or conceal a body mount.

  6. No kickers, angled or otherwise. NO cage components may be welded to the frame.

  7. All horizontal cage components must be at least 12" off the floor of the car, measured at the body bolt elevation.

  8. All cage components must be in the interior of the car, not inside the door structure with the exception of the drivers side. This door bar MAY be inside the door structure to allow more room for drivers safety.

  1. HALO OR ROLLOVER BARS:

  1. You may add a halo bar to the cage components listed above. It may nor exceed 5" in diameter.

    1. On a 4 door post car, this bar must attach to the seat bar, no exceptions.

    2. On a 2 door or 4 door non-pos100ar, this bar may be attached to the floor sheet metal.

    3. Halo bars must be in a direct vertical line with the seat bar.

    4. Halo bars may NOT be angled toward the rear of the car, they must be vertical.

    5. You may bolt the halo bar to the roof sheet metal in 2 places.

    6. Officials decision on cages is final.

  1. SKID PLATES:

  1. Skid plates are allowed. They must be separate plated for the engine and the transmission.

  2. NO full length skid plates.

  3. NO bolting or welding the skid plated to the frame.

  1. TRUNK LIDS:

  1. Trunk lids must remain 50% in the stock location.

  2. You may fasten your trunk lid in 3 ways:

    1. You may weld 5 on and 5 off 4" x 1/8" strap max.

    2. AND -You may weld 4 pcs. of 3/4" all thread vertically to the rear frame rails and run them thru the trunk lid. No double nutting. You may use a 5" washer on the trunk lid bolts

    3. AND -You may place up to 8 - 3/8" bolts in the drip rail area of the trunk lid.

    4. There must be 12" minimum hole in the trunk lid for inspection purposes.

    5. The tail light panel must remain vertical in ALL classes.

  1. HOODS:

  1. Hoods may be bolted, wired or chained shut ONLY.

  2. You may use 6 bolts top hold the hood, 1" max.

  3. The 2 front bolts may go thru the frame, NOT welded to the frame. The other 4 must be sheet metal to sheet metal.

  4. If you use chain or wire, you may weld up to 5" washers to the hood. If bolting, the 5" washers must be free floating.

  5. You may install up to 12 - 3/8" bolts or self tapping screws per hood cutout. Maximum of 3 cut outs. Maximum washer size is 1" diameter. Cutouts may be for header clearance, air breather clearance or radiator fill opening only.

  6. NO welding of cut outs is allowed.

  7. You Must have a minimum 10" hole in the hood for fire protection.

  8. Hoods must be open at inspection time, hood springs must be removed.

  1. DOORS:

  1. Doors may be welded solid, outside only, 4" x 1/8" strap maximum. You may also use rod to fill the gaps in place of strapping - you may NOT use both.

  2. You may smash the inner and outer skin together and weld them solid, NO added metal.

  3. If you do not weld your doors you must chain or #9 wire them closed in at least 2 spots. You may NOT bolt your doors shut.

  4. Drivers door may have window netting for drivers safety. NO other windows may have netting.

  5. You may weld a plate Maximum 6" x 1/4" across the front doors for protection, not to exceed 6" beyond the front door seams. NO GRADER BLADES. These plates must be in the center of the door, run horizontally.

  6. Wagon tail gates must be bolted or wired shut, NOT welded. 3/4" bolt maximum. 4 nuts maximum. U-bolts count as 2 nuts.

  1. WINDOWS:

  1. You must have a minimum of 1 bar, chain or wire running from the roof to the cowl in the windshield area for drivers protection. This may not be designed as reinforcement to the car. Drivers safety only.

  2. You may use 2 loops, 4 strands of #9 wire total in each window opening. This wire may go to or around the frame.

  3. Station Wagons may not use wire in any window opening beyond the rear passenger door window opening.

  4. The wire must remain in the field of that window. They may not crisscross the interior of the car.

  1. OTHER:

  1. Body creasing, enhancing of existing body lines and addition of body lines will not be allowed. Some pre-concaving of quarter panels will be allowed, but not the wide spread hammer and dolly treatment of 2007. If you have questions about this, call first.

  2. No doubling of body panels allowed, no added metal allowed

  3. In the Mayhem class, quarter panel must remain vertical.

  4. In other classes, the quarters may be folded over, but not to create a ramp effect.

  5. Floor sheet metal may be patched where components will be mounted or for drivers safety, sheet metal only. No other sheet metal patching is allowed unless it is a safety issue. Please call first.

  6. NO SEAM WELDING other than the exterior drivers doors.

  7. Core support seam welding is NOT allowed in 2008.

  8. Washers for #9 Wire may be welded to the roof sheet metal. They may be a maximum of 1 ˝" diameter.

  9. Holes may be cut in the floor & firewall to accommodate the shifter, fuel lines, transmission lines.

  10. You may cut a hole in the firewall to accommodate the engine, within reason.

  11. You may have up to (10) Ten 3/8" bolts in each wheel opening. They may not be higher than 5" above the stock lip location of the wheel opening. Officials decision is final.

  1. ENGINES, TRANSMISSIONS, REAR ENDS:

ENGINES:

  1. Any motor may be used in any car, but it must be mounted within 5" of the original motor.

  2. You may chain the motor, but you must use an existing bolt.

  3. You may weld in additional supports to the engine cradle area, but they may not be attached to the frame rails at any point.

  4. No engine oil coolers are allowed.

  5. You must have an air cleaner over the carburetor at all times.

  6. No starting fluid is allowed.

TRANSMISSIONS:

  1. Transmissions must be of passenger car origin, transmission coolers may be used, but they must be secured in such a way to prevent injury.

  2. Metal or braided lines must be used.No fuel or low pressure lines may be used.

  3. Coolers must be secured in a container in the passenger compartment of the car.

REAR ENDS:

  1. Rear ends must be of a passenger car origin, 5 lug maximum.

  2. You may use any type of rear end(Ford / Mopar / GM / Hybrid).

  3. No truck, 8 lug, or floater rear ends.

  4. You may tilt the rear end by lengthening or shortening the trailing arms. Trailing arms must be of passenger car origin and must operate. Trailing arms may be reinforced but must be OEM origin.

  5. Rear end braces are allowed.

  1. BODY BOLTS:

    1. All body bolts may be replaced with up to 3/4" bolts, maximum 8" length.

    2. Core support bolts may be 1" diameter. Core support bolts may go thru the hood and count as 2 of your 6 hood bolts.

    3. You may use pipe up to 1 ˝" OD to run the core support all thread thru. These pipes may be welded to the core support using 3/16" strapping, 2 -4" pcs. max per pipe.

    4. Washers must be free floating inside the car and inside the frame on the bottom side.

    5. Do NOT weld the body washers to the floor in 2008. Maximum washer size is 5" x 3/16".

    6. Space must be maintained between the body and the frame. Minimum 3/4".

    7. Do not bolt the body directly to the frame.

    8. You may add 2 body mounts in the position of your choice. They must be painted for easy viewing.

    9. If your station wagon came with the body bolts in the humps, these are your 2 additional mounts. You will NOT be allowed to add more mounts.

    10. If you decide to bolt your coil springs in place thru the frame and the rear package tray, these will count as your added mounts.

    11. Wagons are permitted to run 2 of the rear 4 mounts thru the rear pillars. NOT THE ROOF. They must be in the pillar at the tailgate area.

    12. Chrysler products may run 1" all thread behind the radiator support, but must drill a hole in the frame to bolt the all thread. Do not weld these to the frame.

  1. RADIATORS, RADIATOR SUPPORTS:

  1. Radiator must be in the stock position in front of the motor.

  2. Radiator supports must remain in the stock location.

  3. OEM style radiators only, no home made tube construction radiators.

  4. You may not add cooling capacity. No supplemental cooling devices allowed.

  1. FUEL, FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEMS:

  1. No plastic gas tanks allowed. Marine tank or metal fuel tank only.

  2. No fuel cells with a capacity greater than 7.5 gallons allowed.

  3. Original gas tanks must be removed from the car.

  4. No "gas tank protectors" or mounting devices allowed.

  5. You must have the gas tank securely mounted behind the drivers seat and it must be covered.

  6. Fuel lines must run inside the car, not under the car along the frame.

  7. Fuel lines must be secured to the floor and kept from pinch points

  8. Automotive pump gas only, NO ALCOHOL.

  9. Electric fuel pumps are allowed. They must be covered and have an on/off switch near the steering wheel and clearly marked in large letters.

  10. All lines must be double clamped.

  1. TIRES & BRAKES:

  1. No tires taller than 30".

  2. No split rims, studded tires or 100% steel wheels.

  3. Valve stem protectors allowed, wheel weights must be removed.

  4. Doubled or foam filled tires OK - we don’t like flats!

  5. All cars must be able to demonstrate the ability to stop at any time. If your brakes do not work, you will not compete.

  1. BATTERIES:

  1. A maximum of 2 - 12 volt batteries may be used.

  2. They must be secured inside the car in front of the passenger seat and covered.

  1. FRAMES:

  1. The only frame welding allowed is from the front of the a-arms forward, top only, no more than a ˝" wide bead.

  2. Buick, Olds and Pontiacs may fill the large hole in the frame behind the radiator support. This must be a butt fit, 1 pass weld only. NO overlap allowed.

  3. The bumper strap to frame welding is covered in the bumper section.

  4. NO other frame welding is allowed. No plating, stuffing, heat treating or foam filling of frames is allowed. Do NOT paint or undercoat your frame or you will not even be inspected and loaded. 

  5. You may weld your motor mounts to the engine cradle.

  6. Rear frame rails may not be shortened. No dowel pinning of the frame is allowed.

  7. You may notch the frame for minimal pre-bending, but do NOT weld the cut.

  8. You may run a chain or cable or #9 wire from rear rail to rear rail behind the rear humps. 3/8" chain maximum.

  9. You may chain or wire your axle to the frame hump. You may NOT use strapping of any kind for this. Wire or chain only. 3/8" chain maximum.

  10. Uni-body cars may use 1 bolt per side thru the frame for this.

  11. You may not weld the chain links to create a bar effect.

  1. BUMPERS, BUMPER BRACKETS:

  1. Bumpers are interchangeable. Any automotive bumper or bracket may be used on any car. This includes compact and mid-sized cars.

  2. You may weld the bumper seams, the shocks and weld the brackets to the frame. You may not weld further than 4" behind the radiator support when mounting your front bumper brackets on any car.

  3. If you choose not to use brackets, you may weld your bumper directly to the frame.

  4. You may weld the outer chrome skin to the bumper inner frame.

  5. You may not weld the bumper to the body at any time.

  6. Bumpers may be cut to keep them out of the tires.

  7. Bumpers may be flipped (upside down).

  8. Compression bumper shocks may be drained, slid back into the shock and welded fully.

  9. All bumper brackets and shock components must be OEM automotive materials.

  10. You may run 4 loops of #9 wire from the radiator support to the bumper in 2 locations outside of the radiator.

  11. You may weld a 4" x 12" x 1/4" strap from the bumper to the frame to help keep the bumper on the car. This must remain in one piece, and may be welded on the top, bottom, or side of the frame, but it cannot be angled to the corner of the bumper to form a kicker. 12" is the maximum length.

  12. You may run 2 pieces of all thread 3/4" x no more than 14" thru the body pan to help hold the bumper on. 5" washer maximum for this bolt.

  13. Do not add metal to your bumper. 

  14. Bumper height minimum 16" to the bottom of the bumper. Bumper height maximum 22" to the bottom of the bumper.

  15. Officials decision is final.

  1. SUSPENSION, SPRINGS:

  1. No coil to leaf conversions in the Mayhem Class.

  2. Leaf springs must be in the factory position.

  3. You may change coil springs.

  4. Suspension must be original factory suspension for that car.

  5. You may not remove the shocks and put pipe or all thread in their place.

  6. No means other than tires and coil spring spacers may be used to raise the cars suspension.

  7. Both ends of the car must have a working suspension and bounce freely.

  8. If you chain your humps, you must leave enough slack for the suspension to work.

  9. You may reinforce your tie rods, but you must start with an OEM tie rod.

  10. The inspector must be able to see the ends and the adjusting threads.

  11. NO PIPE TIE RODS.

  12. Steering wheel to Steering gearbox may be modified.

  13. After market steering columns allowed.

  14. No solid suspensions allowed.

  15. Shock absorbers must be factory replacement for that year, make and model of car.

  16. No truck shocks, no exotic shocks, no mystery shocks, no over sized shocks.

  17. All shocks must have a minimum 3/4" hole in the dust cover for inspection purposes.

  18. Cars that place in the money will have the shock cylinder cut open and if a non-stock shock is discovered, that car will be disqualified and all money won will be forfeited.

  19. Air shock lines must be cut.

  20. Officials decisions are final.

  1. LEAF SPRINGS:

  1. 9 leaf maximum, 5/16 " max thickness, 2 ˝" wide maximum.

  2. 58" minimum, 60" maximum spring length.

  3. Stagger - 3" long side (rear of axle), 2" short side (front of axle).

  4. 5 clamps per spring, 2 in front of the axle, 3 behind the axle.

  5. Clamp material 1/4" thick, 2" wide, 2 - 5/16" bolts per clamp.

  6. U-bolts - 7/16" maximum, stock mounting plates must be used.

  7. No home made mounting plates or oversized u bolts will be allowed.

  8. No welding on the spring pack

  9. No flat sprung cars - leaf pack must have a minimum of 2" of arch.

  10. No duct taping of springs prior to inspection.

  11. No exceptions. Officials decisions are final.

  1. MM - 80’s COIL TO LEAF CONVERSION CLASS:

  1. Same leaf pack as the Mayhem Class.

  2. You may install the leaf spring front eyelet in this way instead of into the trailing arm bracket.

  3. You may cut a hole in the bottom of the frame, install a sleeve of no greater than 1 ˝“ OD to run the mounting bolt through. The front eyelet of the spring may then be installed in the frame with a thru-bolt. No metal may be added other than the sleeve.

  4. Rear shackle must mount within 5” of the stock location of the rear bumper bracket.

  5. No short sprung cars allowed.

  6. Rear shackle cannot exceed 3/8" material thickness and cannot be larger than 4" x 6".

  7. Rear shackle is to be bolted thru the frame, not welded and have the ability to move.

  8. You may install a section or 1.5" diameter tubing cross ways thru the frame for the pivot bolt on the working shackle.

  9. The shackle must be mounted in the factory style position.

  10. Six (6) clamps per spring allowed, same spec as the Mayhem class for clamp size.

  11. No duct taping of springs prior to inspection.

  1. MM / BW INSPECTION PROCEDURES:

  1. You will be given one (1) opportunity to correct items on your car.

  2. Each car gets a maximum of 2 times thru inspection.

  3. Cars will be impounded after inspection and staged in a secure location.

  4. You must be completely ready to bolt the hood down during inspection and then put the car in the staging area.

  5. No further work will be allowed and cars will not be allowed to return to their trailers.

  6. Do not come to the inspection line if you are not done preparing your car.

  1. MM PRE-FEATURE/PRE-CONSOLATION CAR PREPARATION:

  1. You may add 4 strands of wire in 4 locations of your choice prior to the consi, unlimited wire for feature.

  2. Leaf spring cars may NOT replace leaf springs prior to either the consi or the feature.

  3. You may wire them or tape leaf springs, but may not replace them.

  4. No replacing of sheet metal components prior to the consi or the feature.

  5. After the heats, consi cars will be reinspected. Feature cars will be impounded.

  6. Upon impound, digital photographs will be taken of each feature car.

  7. Feature car repairs will begin at sunrise. Feature cars must be reinspected by 1pm and then impounded again.  No further repairs will be allowed after this point.

 

OFFICIALS DECISIONS ARE FINAL
